Look at the WWF site. There is an excellent overview of the characteristics, importance & threats in relation to Canada's Boreal Forest. This is wholly relevant to both 'ecosystems' and 'wilderness' units. This essay theme could appear in either, although I have made it specific to the Boreal areas of the world. (could be ecosystem/forest/wilderness instead of 'Boreal')
