Population Pressure in Arizona

New line of thinking! As the population of the desert states of southwest USA grow, the wilderness areas are coming under increased pressure. Cities such of Phoenix have been built in the desert and have encroached upon wilderness areas. This web site provides a starter for a line of research, developing an MEDC case study to complement work on the impact of growing population pressure in the Amazon wilderness. It also complements the work we did on mineral extraction in the Grand Staircase wilderness region. A range of threats to existing wilderness areas of Arizona are outlined in this report by the Sierra Club. They clearly point the finger at the Bush government as being responsible for this increased demand being permitted to impact on wilderness areas.
