Energy stuff from Mr Whites Lesson

Hey, heres the second bit of the work (and cos im silly, can someone (i.e. alexia or will) put the first bit i did onto here, as i forgot to save it to the memory stick)

There are several main groups in Leicester that are helping to solve energy problems are: Leicester City Council, the Leicester Energy Agency, DeMontfort University (Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development) and Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire.
The points below are the general inputs that all agree will help with energy demands along with the need to reduce climate change (releasing of CO2)

§ Focuses on energy efficiency – by reducing the amount of energy required to meet needs. In 1994, the City Council adopted an energy strategy with an ambitious target of reducing energy usage to 50% of 1990 levels by 2025. Some good progress has been made towards this target, however people still think that a lot more can be done. To do this it must include: ways of producing renewable energy, continuing to use and promote energy efficient products to the general public, and a wider use of CHP.

§ There are numerous examples of renewable energy systems in Leicester: solar thermal panels on a estimated 100 buildings; the EcoHouse uses a roof that generates electricity and aims to install a further 50 such systems in Braunstone. The possibility of using wind turbines in and around the city is becoming a more popular idea along with small scale ‘hydro’, geothermal and heat pump energy generation.

§ Every electricity user in Leicester has the option to purchase ‘green’ electricity, which offers an immediate route to engage businesses and households in action to reduce their CO2 emissions. Greater promotion of ‘green’ energy is in the planning and there is also a plan to link electricity purchase to renewable energy generation.

§ One main aim is for all new buildings to incorporate the highest possible energy efficiency measures also to ideally include some energy generation.
